How to Make Your Own Organic Face Wash

How to Make Your Own Organic Face Wash
A face wash the whole family can use? Who else is on board with this idea?
If you have been following my family's journey with creating our Makes 3 Organics brand, you know our primary purpose is providing the world with organic alternatives to conventional personal care and skincare products. We do this because we are on a quest to help you reduce your exposure to synthetic agricultural, cosmetic, and industrial chemicals.
We began creating our truly natural and organic products as soon as we found out our daughter, Alice, had asthma, eczema, and food and environmental allergies. Her doctor told us to detox our cupboards and we took that to heart! We started creating our own organic products and became inspired to encourage others to use these healthy products as well.
Expanding Your Organic Awareness
Becoming organic happens with little decisions every day and we believe our products can help. In fact, we like to say that you can't get any closer to nature than with our soaps, balms and butters! We also have found that by combining our ready-made products with other every day ingredients you have in your home, that you can expand your healthy pantry by many more truly natural and organic products.
Becoming organic happens with little decisions every day and we believe our products can help.
To that end, in addition to the household cleaning recipes we have created for you, we have been busy trying out other things. Washing our face and body sets the tone for self-care throughout the day and can also contribute to healthy sleep hygiene. Our minds love routine and being intentional in these basic steps builds a solid foundation for mindful living. So, we thought we would try out making an organic face wash that you can make on a craft day and that you all will enjoy using.
An easy way to ensure that the face soap you are using doesn't contain ingredients that you really don't need, is by starting with our Organic (Castile) Liquid Soaps as your base ingredient. We market our Organic (Castile) Liquid Soaps soaps as hand soaps, or as a base ingredient in household cleaning products, but they are also very effective in the shower or as part of your morning and nighttime facecare routine just by adding a couple of extra ingredients.
An Easy Recipe You Can Make with Your Children
So here is a very easy to make face wash that will leave everyone in the family feeling clean and confident.
Ingredients:
- 3 Tablespoons organic, local honey
- ½ Cup vegetable glycerine
- 2 Tablespoons of Organic (Castile) Liquid Soap
Directions:
Combine all of the ingredients into a container with a lid, close the lid and shake to combine the ingredients, now it is ready to use!
How to Use: Simply apply a quarter size amount into the palm of your hand, add water to lather, wash your face and rinse thoroughly.
Honey; the Wonder of Nature
Honey is a natural relaxant, sleep improver and immune booster when eaten, and is also an amazing ingredient to use on our faces. Honey is a great skin moisturizer, it heals cuts and scratches, and protects your skin from damage from the sun! Summer may be over, but using this face wash will contribute to your glowing skin during cloudy, cold months when you aren't outdoors.
Choosing organic, local honey is very important. Organic honey is free of harmful agricultural chemicals, and the bees that make the organic honey only feed on organic wildflowers. Honey has so many benefits, but a lot of them can become stripped away when not organic and local.
In addition, bee cruelty is real. This is more of a critical problem than a lot of people realize. To make conventional honey, the queen bee’s wings are often cut off and she is artificially inseminated. Large companies do not leave any honey for the bees to get through winter. Instead, the honey is just replaced with a cheap sugar substitute which contributes to bee colony collapse. Some companies even burn the hives, killing all the bees, in the winter to reduce costs. When the honey is scraped up many bees get taken with it; crushed and smashed up.
When we choose local and organic honey, we are supporting our local companies and are benefiting our bodies. We have the power of choosing to know where our food and products come from and making cruelty-free choices as a result.
Another Recipe if Honey Isn't Your Thing
Ironically, Alice had a honey allergy when she was a little girl. Thankfully she overcame that allergy and now adds it liberally to her tea just like everyone else. If honey isn't the right ingredient for you, due to allergies or otherwise, try this recipe. By adding other plant oils along with Vitamin E oil you can give your skin the benefit of extra skin nourishing vitamins and minerals.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup cooled organic brewed chamomile tea (or filtered or distilled water)
- 1/4 cup Organic (Castile) Liquid Soap
- 1/2 tsp organic plant oil (try almond oil or jojoba oil)
- 3-4 drops vitamin E oil optional
- 8-16 drops of your favorite essential oil (we love lavender or frankinsense)
Directions:
Combine all of the ingredients into a container with a lid, close the lid and shake to combine the ingredients, now it is ready to use!
How to Use: Simply apply a quarter size amount into the palm of your hand, add water to lather, wash your face and rinse thoroughly.
We think by taking a little extra time to know your ingredients and add homemade products to your routines, that you become a little more connected to nature and a slower, more intentional way of life. We hope you love it!
