Save the Planet - Reuse Your Tins!

Here at Makes 3 Organics® we care deeply about the environment. That’s why our packaging is made with recycled and recyclable papers and plastics, non-toxic dyes, non-toxic adhesives and tins. Our tins are made out of steel because with aluminum there is a risk of the aluminum leeching into our products which could be harmful to your health. Steel tins are totally non-reactive! Plus, our tins are great to be re-used and recycled in many ways!
In this article, we will be giving you some inspirational ideas and fun activities for you to use your tins and give them a new purpose!
Before you get started:
Make sure you clean your tins out really well.
Because our tins contain oil based products, all you need to do it heat up some water and poor it over the tin. You can also take a warm washcloth or sponge and scrub it out, and either leave it to dry or use a towel to wipe it.
So here are some great ideas for your tins!
Basic Storage
Whether you want to pack a small amount of loose leaf tea for an upcoming trip, or you need a container for office supplies here are some ideas for you!
Chia Seed To-Go Container
Chia seeds are a great source protein, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, calcium, and antioxidants. They are great to take with you on the go so you can add them to your food and drinks during the day. If you’re out and about, grabbing a juice or smoothie and adding chia seeds to it can be great! Or sprinkling them on top of a salad can be a great addition.
Nut and Sunflower Seed Container
Especially during baseball season, having sunflower seeds close by, in your pocket, can be super nice because they make great snacks! Our body balm tins are the perfect size to pack little snack packs of nuts and seeds!
Managing Your “Bad-Habit” Snacks
If you’re like me, you love chocolate, because our tins are petite, you can feel comfortable buying a larger package of sweets and putting them into a tin to help you manage your cravings. Even if you binge out on a ton of chocolate, it’s not as bad as eating the entire bag!
Office Supply Storage
Especially if you are in college and you’re always on the go storing paperclips, staples, clips, and whatever else you can think of is a great way to contain your items. The screw tops make sure that your items stay secure.
Hair Supplies
If you want to throw some hair ties in a gym bag or purse placing them in a tin can be much better than having them loose in your bag. De-clutter your life, and re-use your tins!
Jewelry holder
Again, if you are traveling, these cleaned out tins can be great! Whether you have rings, necklaces, or bracelets the tins can be a great easy compact tool to store items while traveling.
Storing Crayons, Chalk, and Pastels
If you have kids, or are an artist’s yourself, you may find yourself packing up to do art in the great art doors, or moving around the house often. These little tins are a great place to store some of your artsy items!
Getting Artsy
Arts and crafts are a great way to engage with your kids, friends, or even just give you something to do during this summer! We’ve got some great ideas for you to try out!
Watercolor Trays
Another artsy thing you can do with our tins is use them for your water-coloring! Whether you are using them to hold your clear water to rinse your brushes, or if you are using a tubed watercolor and need an area to place your color to be watered down, the tops and bottoms of our tins are great for such as task! What watercolor will you make this summer?
Creating Candles
Making candles is super fun and can be great as a gift. All you need to do is head to your local crafts store, or website, and order some candle wicks, and beeswax. Heat up the beeswax using a double boiler system, and add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for scent! You can then decorate your tine any way you’d like!
Making a Keep-Sake Box
You can get some adhesive jewels or stickers and stick them right to the tin and create your very own memory box! Ok well, it’s a tin, but it’s a great place to store your memories from this summer! Maybe a seashell you found with a feather you found on a walk with your bestie!
Creating a Custom Mint Holder!
With the Fourth of July coming up we grabbed some sparkles and simply sprayed our tin with a glossy clear spray paint, you could use any spray adhesive, and then just sprinkle glitter on it! Then fill it with whatever items you’d like to share with friend on the whatever special day you have coming up!
Pet Tin
We all remember making Pet Rocks as kids, well now we can have a Pet Tins! The great thing about the pet tins, is they can also hold your snacks, hair ties, or whatever else you may have! All you need to make your Pet Tin is some paint, googly eyes, fur or feathers, depending on what you'd like to make your pet.
So now that you have some inspiration for unique ways to reuse your Makes 3 Organics tins, how will YOU use them?
